Pusan National University and Pusan National University Hospital announced on December 5 that they will receive a supply of Lutetium-177 (Lu-177) from the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute to accelerate the development of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals using microspheres. Utilizing Lutetium-177, Prof. S. Yang of the Department of Biomaterials Science at Pusan National University and Prof. G.Kim of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Pusan National University Hospital are collaborating on the development of biodegradable hyaluronic acid–based radioactive microspheres labeled with Lutetium-177 (Lu-HA microgel). This treatment is expected to provide a safe and localized radiation therapy option, offering an effective therapeutic alternative for patients with liver cancer.
